The situation Report

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake on the Richter scale hit, Tazehabad the city which is  the capital of Salas-e Babajani County, Kermanshah Province, Iran, on Sunday August 26, 2018 at 02:43 local time, killing 2 people and injuring 267. The epicenter of the earthquake was at 34.63o degrees north and 46.22o degrees east at the depth of 8 km. It was felt in districts of Kermanshah and Kurdistan Provinces and led people to flee out their houses.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Organisation of Kermanshah Government, the earthquake resulted in electric power stoppage in some villages and the rural route from Javanrood to Solas-e Babajani was blocked. Now the electric power is restored and the blocked route is opened by traffic police and the Iranian Road Maintenance and Transportation Organisation.

The injured people were transported to nearby hospitals and most of them received outpatient treatment services and were discharged.

According to the Medical Sciences University in Kermanshah, two people were killed; a seventy-year-old male and a pregnant female (with eight-month old foetus) died for cardiac arrest.

 

Iranian Red Crescent

According to Head for Relief and Rescue Organisation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, 21 assessment teams (consist of 40 operational forces) deployed to the affected area and assessed 42 villages (22 villages in Solas-e Babajani, 8 villages in Javanrood, 12 villages in Sar Pol-e Zahab).

18 Ambulances, 3 rescue vehicles and 3 helicopters have been dispatched by Relief and Rescue Organisation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society for providing aids and services and 7000 bottles of drinking water were distributed on the day of quake occurrence.

He added that the organization is preparing the emergency sheltering for quake affected people.
