Namibia: Integrated Food Security Programme

“The video gives an overview about the new disaster risk reduction initiative of the Namibia Red Cross which is focussing on integrated food security approaches. The programme was launched in 2011 and shows the National Society’s experience in supporting communities in the ‘Giving Back Project’ in the Khomas region and the ‘Tusa Vegetable Garden’ in the Caprivi region. The ‘Giving Back Project’ supports impoverished households and people living with HIV in informal settlements to grow their own nutritional vegetables and staple cereal crops in their backyard gardens while the ‘Tusa Vegetable Garden’ aims to increase and diversify food production through the use of available natural resources, such as the water from the Zambezi River Basin .”
