Checklist for flood preparedness – Red Cross of Montenegro

Between 2018 and 2024, the Red Cross of Montenegro, as part of the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance, worked to increase flood resilience in vulnerable communities.

One of the knowledge products produced as part of this program was a checklist on actions to take at the household level in preparation for floods:

  1. Prepare a bag in case of evacuation.
  2. Stay connected and prepare a list of emergency contacts.
  3. Follow the weather forecast.
  4. Keep important documents safe.
  5. Establish communication with local authorities.
  6. Avoid using electrical devices.
  7. Prepare a first aid kit.
  8. Be careful during the night. If necessary, try to evacuate during the day rather than at night.
  9. Identify safe evacuation routes.
