Small Business Preparedness Toolkit

Maubin Township Red Cross is the strongest branch of Myanmar Red Cross Society. It has a monthly income of more than 300,000 kyats (about 300 US dollars) while most branches can hardly make 20-30,000 kyats. It has got bottled water business, inter-city buses licensed under the branch, and rented out a few stalls at the main market. It has its own office and rents part of its office for Desktop Publishing for income generation.
Because it is located in Ayeyarwady delta, volunteers from the branch sometimes help out in times of boat mishaps or ferry disasters. Quite a few volunteers are trained in water safety or lifeguard training.
U Myint Wai, staff officer grade 2 of Maubin district Red Cross, talks with the owner of a stall rented out by the red cross.
