Anjana has worked in 17 disasters in different parts of the world over the past ten years, including the Tsunami in South Asia and Hurricanes Irene in the Caribbean and Sandy in the US. Much of her ten years have been with the American Red Cross and has included leading community-based Psychosocial Support Programs in India, and Sri Lanka, where she developed and conducted trainings and managed programs. She has provided technical assistance to programs in the Maldives, Indonesia, Pakistan and Uganda. While she lived in Puerto Rico, she joined the ARC Disaster Services as Federal Liaison for the Caribbean. Most recently Anjana was the manager of Individual Assistance at the ARC Disaster Services. Anjana has also worked with ICRC, where she developed national guidelines for psychosocial support within restoring family links framework, tracing services for unaccompanied minors, and management of dead bodies. She also is a roster member for IFRC psychosocial support center based in Danish Red Cross HQ. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Isabella Thoburn College, Lucknow University, India and a diploma in Humanitarian Diplomacy from IFRC/DiploFoundation. She is currently working on her master’s degree from United Nations-mandated University for Peace, Costa Rica. She is a published author of a book and technical articles in international journals. Her poems on humanitarian issues have been included in three anthologies of contemporary poets in India. She speaks English, Hindi, Urdu and Spanish. She is currently working as the Senior Advisor for Community Mobilization and lives with husband and son in Northern Virginia, US.
