Crisis Connect — Open-Source Offline Emergency Communication
Crisis Connect is an open-source, offline-first emergency communication project designed for situations where cellular networks and internet connectivity are unavailable or disrupted.
The application enables nearby smartphones to communicate directly using device-to-device connectivity, allowing users to exchange emergency messages and essential information without relying solely on external communication infrastructure.
Crisis Connect is available on Android and iOS and is being developed as a preparedness and resilience tool for communities and emergency contexts. The project explores how existing consumer smartphones can provide an additional local communication layer alongside established emergency communication systems such as radio, satellite communications and restored cellular networks.
The project is publicly available and open source, allowing researchers, developers and disaster-management practitioners to review and contribute to its development.
