Minimum Standards in Food Security and Nutrition

Access to food and the maintenance of an adequate nutritional status are critical determinants of people’s survival in a disaster. Ultimately better food security and nutrition in disaster response is achieved through better preparedness.

These standards are a subset of the Sphere standards focused specifcially on food security. The main areas of intervention for food security and nutrition in disasters covered here are infant and child feeding; the management of acute malnutrition and micronutrieent deficiencies; food transfers; cash and voucher transfers; and livelihoods.
