Pillowcase Project International Pilot Peru:Video Case Study
The American Red Cross and the GDPC, with sponsorship from Disney, are working to prepare school-age children at home and abroad for the next disaster through “The Pillowcase Project”. Building on nine years of successful “Pillowcase Project” implementation in cities across the United States, the GDPC has developed a model curriculum allowing Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies around the world to adapt the project for use in their own countries. Using pillowcases and other culturally appropriate containers to hold emergency items like flashlights and bottled water, staff and volunteers of other national societies are teaching life-saving preparedness lessons to students around the world.
The Peru Red Cross piloted Mi Funda de Almohada in 2014 in 4 provinces at risk for and recently affected by disasters. After modifying the American Red Cross curriculum to fit the Peruvian context, the Peru Red Cross trained volunteers to deliver presentations in schools throughout these provinces. As of December 2014, the Peru Red Cross has reached over 2,000 students with the program and plans to expand their reach in 2015 with ad ditional support from the GDPC and Disney.
About the Video

By combining simple technology to capture interviews and actual presentation footage with more advanced media, such as areal images, this case study tells a compelling story about the work done by the Peru Red Cross and provides primary evidence of its benefits for the recipients. The video was produced by Quimera TV, and funded by Disney.
