Heat Action Day 2026: Empowering School Students Through Heat Risk Awareness and Anticipatory Action in Bangladesh

To mark Heat Action Day 2026, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) organized heat awareness activities in 12 schools across Chuadanga, Jashore, Satkhira, Kushtia, Meherpur, and Magura. The initiative supports this year’s global theme, “Indoor Heat: Recognizing and Taking Action Against the Health Risks We Face Indoors,” while promoting Anticipatory Action to reduce the health impacts of extreme heat.

The activities aimed to help students recognize heat-related risks, understand the potential health impacts of extreme temperatures, and take early action to protect themselves, their families, and their communities before heat-related illnesses occur.

Using interactive learning methods, including awareness sessions, art competitions, and the Heat-Ludo educational game, students explored practical ways to stay safe during extreme heat at home, at school, and outdoors. The sessions encouraged active participation and strengthened children’s understanding of heat preparedness through engaging and age-appropriate activities.

By investing in awareness and preparedness among young people, BDRCS is helping build more informed, resilient, and heat-ready communities. Educating children today not only strengthens individual preparedness but also encourages families and communities to adopt safer behaviours during extreme heat events.

This initiative demonstrates how school-based awareness and anticipatory action can play an important role in reducing heat-related risks and strengthening community resilience in the face of a changing climate.
