Overview of the 2024 CAP Implementation Workshop and Training

The 2024 Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) Implementation Workshop and Training took place from October 22–24 in Leuven, Belgium, bringing together over 800 participants from 142 countries and territories. This event, hosted by TISA, USAID, NOAA, and Alert-Hub.Org CIC, with co-sponsorship from IAEM and OASIS, provided a platform for experts to share knowledge on advancing emergency alerting systems.

Key sessions addressed topics such as public-private partnerships, leveraging big data for alerts, and language inclusivity in warning systems. Highlights included insights into the integration of CAP with technologies like Esri GIS tools, cell broadcast systems, and satellite emergency warning services. Special focus was given to CAP’s role in enhancing national and international early warning systems and disaster communication strategies.

The workshop also marked the 20th anniversary of CAP as a global standard and featured discussions on implementing CAP in diverse contexts, including Brazil, Mexico, and Malaysia. Recordings of the sessions and additional resources are available for further learning.

The report includes links to each of the 22 presentations, their video recordings, and a brief summary of each session.
