2017 Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) Implementation Workshop – Report and Presentations
This page brings together the Report of the 2017 CAP Implementation Workshop and the full set of technical presentations delivered during the workshop, held on 20–21 September 2017 in Rome, Italy.
The workshop convened 72 technical experts from 20 countries to exchange practical experiences, system designs, and policy considerations related to implementing the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) at national, regional, and global levels. Discussions focused on real-world CAP deployment across meteorological services, civil protection authorities, humanitarian organizations, technology providers, and standards bodies.
The report synthesizes key lessons, implementation challenges, and emerging practices, while the presentations provide detailed case studies covering national alert systems, multi-hazard platforms, satellite-based detection, disability inclusion, cloud services, media dissemination, and global coordination efforts. Here is the list of speakers who presented at the workshop.
Together, these materials serve as a reference for policymakers, emergency managers, technical implementers, and partners involved in designing or strengthening CAP-enabled public warning systems.
