Community Based Protection in Liberia
In 2014 Liberia suffered a deadly outbreak of Ebola that spread quickly throughout the country and claimed the lives of more than three thousand people. Although recent weeks have seen a considerable drop in the number of confirmed Ebola cases, Liberia Red Cross remains on the frontline in the battle to contain the outbreak as it moves into a new phase. The emphasis is increasingly on community-based protection for vulnerable, remote communities that are sometimes days away by road from Ebola Treatment Units. Neima Nora Candy, National Ebola Coordinator for Liberia Red Cross, explains how the battle is being fought and why community based protection is so important right now.
