Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP)
Official website of the Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) in Bangladesh which was established in 1972 and is operated as a joint initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. The CPP has been credited with bringing about a significant reduction in loss of life in Bangladesh as a result of cyclones and other tropical storms. The program integrates early warning, evacuation, sheltering, first aid, search and rescue, relief distribution, and rehabilitation and recovery activities.
The programme covers the full cycle of cyclone risk management, integrating early warning dissemination, community evacuation, emergency sheltering, first aid, search and rescue, relief distribution, and rehabilitation and recovery activities. With a volunteer network spanning coastal communities across Bangladesh, the CPP represents one of the most recognized and long-standing community-based disaster risk reduction programmes in the world.
