Generic Heatwave Awareness Posters: English and Text-Free (Part 1)
Free printable heatwave awareness posters in English and text-free versions you can adapt to any language.
This resource contains Part 1 of the generic heat action poster set, which was produced for Heat Action Day 2022 by the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre and the Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC). The posters come in two versions:
- an English version, ready to print
- a text-free version with the illustrations and layout but no words
With the text-free version, National Societies, local governments and community organizations can add their own language, local messages and contact details. That makes the posters useful wherever ready-made translations don’t exist.
What’s included
The generic set covers:
- Extreme heat is deadly: the dangers of heatwaves and dangerous heat
- Who is most at risk: protecting children and outdoor workers
- Recognising heat illness: the types and warning signs of heat illness
- Staying safe: simple actions to stay cool, and a heat road map showing what to do before and during a heatwave
Format: one ZIP file of high-resolution JPG images in landscape format, sized to A-series paper proportions for printing on A4 or A3. Languages: English and text-free. Free to use and adapt for non-commercial heat awareness purposes.

How to adapt and use these posters
- Add your text. Open a text-free poster in a design tool such as Canva, PowerPoint or Adobe Illustrator, then add your messages in the local language. Use the English version as a guide to what each poster says.
- Add local details. Include cooling centre locations, emergency numbers and your National Society’s logo.
- Print and display. Put the posters up before and during the hot season, and on Heat Action Day (2 June), in health facilities, schools, markets, transport hubs and workplaces.
