Messaging Campaigns: A Companion to Changing Behaviour

Public campaigns that aim to mobilise people to take action are a powerful tool used by the Red Cross Red Crescent and a variety of other social organizations in their efforts to prevent and alleviate human suffering. Campaigns are employed towards diverse objectives: from community resilience, health, disaster recovery, to social inclusion and beyond.

This set of publications offers guidance for campaign development based upon the learnings from a variety of recent campaigns and draws on:

  • the experience of a selection of key Red Cross Red Crescent campaigns
  • several exceptional external campaigns
  • the literature
This reference for designing the mechanics of a campaign is an excellent complement to resources like the IFRC’s guide on Public Awareness Raising and Public Education on key messages that can be adapted for national or local campaigns.
