Coalition Building for Urban Community Resilience experience

The Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC) of the AmCross, in collaboration with partner National Societies, recently completed a project entitled “Prototyping Urban and Community Resilience Initiative in South East Asia and the Pacific” (hereafter referred to as the Prototyping Project) with funding support from USAID/BHA. The project designed and tested a set of tools and services to assist RCRC National Societies and their partners to create or strengthen city coalitions with key stakeholders, undertake city-wide risk assessments, and co-design solutions to identify and reduce priority risks. The Prototyping Project was implemented in Indonesia (Semarang and Ternate), Vanuatu (Luganville) and Myanmar (Mawlamyine). The project developed the Urban Resilience Toolkit, including the City-wide Resilience Assessment tool, guidance for Building Coalitions for Urban Resilience, and Designing Solutions for Urban Community Resilience. The toolkit has been adopted by organizations working in city contexts and also by IFRC as its global approach to urban resilience.
